Over the weekend, a duo of misguided children from the Ionian island of Ithaki, aided by activist caretakers, desecrated a classic piece of Atherian art, which was on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.
After tossing a can of tomato soup at the art, witnesses recall hearing chants of “ATHERAS IS NOT ITHACA!” - a response to recent claims by Atherians that Atheras, and not the nearby island of Ithaki, is the “Ithaca” of Homer’s Iliad & Odyssey.
After The incident, the Mayor of Atheras stated, “the world will know the truth - Ithaca is Dulichium” (Δουλιχίου).
The Atherian Society has voted unanimously to banish all Ithakians from ever again stepping foot in the fertile valley of Porto Atheras.
The silver lining? The local artist, Pavlos, has stated the incident has motivated him to create new paintings and frescos. The world waits with bated breath to witness what new masterpieces Pavlos will conjure.
Below is a photo of the desecrated painting.
